In 1914, when Hitler was just 25 years old, he joined the German army. He began in August, although he was still an Austrian citizen. He spent a lot of his time away from the actual fighting, but he was in many important battles, and was even wounded in some of them. He was decorated for many things (he got many awards) and was admired for his bravery. He had always had a strong opinion, and when Germany surrendered from the war he was very disappointed, and angry with the leaders for disappointing the civilians. However, now that the war was over, and he had no battles left to go to, he went back to his work. He had of course kept his eye on the news and when he heard the Drexler, the NSDAP party chairman died, he had a goal to replace him. He began to give speeches to become known and his best known speeches were the ones against the Treaty of Versailles (treaty that let German leave WWI) and the ones that were against rival politicians and Jewish people. He then became the NSDAP party chairman. He became well known and eventually worked his way up to chancellor, which is the 2nd person in charge, like a vice president. Then, using this position, he passed the Enabling Act, which gave his cabinet full legislative powers. He had then gained control of most of the branches of government, and eventually, Hitler's Nazi Party was declared the only legal party allowed in Germany.Hitler had so much power at this point in time, that he was basically the leader of Germany, and Germany's revolution. He passed a law abolishing the current leader, and letting the chancellor have full power. This is how he became head of Germany's government system.
